Cabergoline Tablet (Cabanex)

Cabergoline Tablet, marketed under the brand name Cabanex, contains the active ingredient Cabergoline, a dopamine receptor agonist that works by reducing the levels of the hormone prolactin in the body.

This medication appears as a white, crystalline powder that is soluble in ethyl alcohol, slightly soluble in n-hexane, and insoluble in water.

• Cabergoline is used to treat high levels of prolactin hormone (hyperprolactinemia) in the body.
• In women, high prolactin can cause:

• Unwanted breast milk production (galactorrhea)
• Missed or irregular periods
• Difficulty conceiving (infertility)

The dosage that is recommended by the doctor for this drug is Cabanex 0.5mg or Cabanex 1mg, to begin with. This dosage can further be increased up to 1mg at least twice a week.

This can be done while keeping the patient’s prolactin level in view. An elaborate cardiovascular analysis is performed before recommending this medicine to any patient.

The increase in the dosage of this medicine should not be rapid at all and should take at least a good time of 4 weeks before increasing the dosage to a higher level. If there is no adequate result seen with a higher dosage, the patients are moved back to the lower dosage.
