HIV - AIDS

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body’s immune system, specifically the CD4 cells, and if untreated, can progress to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). It is transmitted through specific bodily fluids (blood, semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk) primarily via unprotected sex or sharing needles. While there is no cure, antiretroviral therapy (ART) allows people with HIV to live long, healthy lives and prevents transmission.
